English teacher in special needs education
  • 12:30-13:00 - Day 1

Sevnica, Slovenica

Abstract

In my talk, I will discuss the difference between special needs of students and students with learning disabilities. We will talk about the pluses and minuses of labelling and why learning disability should not be (necessarily) perceived as a special need. We will also cover the issue of parents and how to deal with them. Hopefully some time will be left for Q and A.

What is the the difference between special needs of students and students with learning disabilities?

Biography

I am a teacher of English in special needs education (for the last five years). Prior to teaching English to SEN students, I worked in mainstream education, mostly supporting students with learning disabilities. I currently work as a principal of SEN school in Sevnica in Slovenia. In my work, I am trying to support both the students and the parents and my aim is to discover why supporting students tends to be much easier than supporting parents.
