Abstract

This presentation represents a proposal of the new model for teaching, practicing and revising synonyms through various creative activities, such as the game of associations. By the end of the session the participants will be able to: apply systematic and detailed work with synonyms in primary school. It can also help primary-school pupils in expanding their vocabulary and getting better marks in English.

Biography

Jasna Kapelan was born on 10 February 1982. Jasna received the diploma of the teacher of English language and literature at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad in 2005. She obtained the diploma of the master in English Philology at Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad in 2011. The title of the thesis is: Learning vocabulary through group work by the pupils of the eighth form of primary school. She was awarded the diploma of the doctor of Philology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Novi Sad in 2017. The title of her dissertation is The treatment of syntagmatic and paradigmatic lexical relations in teaching English in the eighth form of primary school: theoretical and practical aspects.

Jasna has been teaching English in the primary school ”Vuk Kardžić” in Bačka Palanka since 2005. She is also the headmistress of the School of Foreign Languages ”MILABO” in Bačka Palanka, which was founded in 2017. Jasna works with students of all ages and of all levels of knowledge. She has taken part in numerous seminars and trainings for advancing teacher’s work, in tenders of the Institute for advancing the education and upbringing, in-home and international projects, and accomplished exceptional results. She has published five scientific articles and has taken part in six conferences. Jasna is also the author of numerous performances with which she has taken part in various festivals and has won awards. She has received awards for the best headteacher’s classes and for the success at municipal, district, and republic competitions concerning the English language. She took her pupils to an English camp in 2007. Jasna is also the author of the seminar: It can be better – concretely (The usage of the innovative activities in a teaching process) which is approved by the Ministry of Education (Seminar number: 494 in the Catalogue).
