The aim of this workshop is to help teachers manage the class in cases when students do not bring their coursebooks to school. We will demonstrate several practical activities through which target vocabulary or grammatical structures can be taught or revised so that teachers still follow the curriculum. This should contribute to reducing stress and facilitate classroom management in such situations, but also inspire teachers to refresh their classes even when students do bring coursebooks. Finally, teachers will share their attitudes towards these activities and discuss potential problems that may occur in an atypical learning environment.
How can we teach without our textbooks?
Jana Živanović is a Ph.D. candidate at the Faculty of Philology, University of Belgrade. She is an enthusiastic language teacher, working as a graduate teaching assistant at the English department, a language instructor at the Faculty of Media and Communications and a collaborator at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya. Her passion encompasses applied linguistics, teaching methodology and materials development, language acquisition, cognitive linguistics, and verbal, nonverbal and public communication. When she is not teaching, Jana is either outdoors or brainstorming ideas for her next project.
