Abstract

I will showcase materials I created for English Language programs in which I apply Content-Based Instruction (CBI) methods of pre-teaching of vocabulary and Think-Pair-Share for Reading/Listening/Speaking activities. The participants will be offered suggestions on how to reshape their teaching style by scaffolding and paying attention to Ss’ affective filter, cognitive load, and Zone of Proximal Development (ZPD). Although there’s a difference between ESL/EFL and CBI, some aspects of teaching methodology are applicable in both teaching contexts: we can arouse our Ss’ curiosity by being more „readable“ and in line with their interests.

Biography

Jelena Stanojčić is a high school English teacher with a Master’s degree in English Language and Literature from the Faculty of Philology, Belgrade University. Since 2014 she has been facilitating programs at American Corner, namely English Access Microscholarship, Business Communication Skills, Share America Conversation Club, and TED talks (and so do you!).
